BGCLS – (716) 926-2119

Starting in 2008, local community leaders collaborated with the Boys and Girls Club of America  in an effort to establish a club near the Lake Shore Senior High School in the Town of Evans.

The Club opened in 2011 and already serves over 600 kids from a large area that includes the Towns of Evans and Brant including the neighborhoods of Angola, Brant, Evans Center, Derby/Highland, Farnham, Lake Erie Beach, North Evans and parts of Eden.

Boys and Girls Clubs have existed nationally for over 140 years, bettering the lives of children from ages 6 to 18 by consistently enabling them to reach their full potential, through producing confidence, strengthening their education and by helping each child become a more responsible member of society.

According to Boys and Girls Club data, over 91% of the club members report they are satisfied with their adult lives. Ninety percent graduate from high school and the majority of alums grow up to be active participating citizens. Over 50% of them attribute their experiences with the club to their success later in life.

The club has five core program areas. The core areas include character, leadership education and career development, and health and life skills, the arts and sports, fitness and recreation. The Boys and Girls Club programs build around this core and offer a diversity of growth opportunities in a fun and mentored atmosphere.

The new Lake Shore chapter of the Boys and Girls of Lake Shore provides the youth of the area with mentoring, peer counseling, free tutoring, a youth advisory board and a further assortment of programs and activities as The Club grows.

Great community programs like this tend to flourish along-side great community involvement. The Boys and Girls Club of Lake Shore is looking for community support through donations and volunteers. Fundraising and sponsors are also needed to help sustain this wonderful community project.

Join the group and add your support by contacting Unit Director Greg Waszak at 926-2119 or bgc@lscsd.org.
